INSTALLATION: Press-free DIY terminal – installed with standard hand tools (wrenches), without pressing tools. Only for 1×19 wire rope (rigid wire rope with 19 strands). Not suitable for 7×7, 7×19 or other flexible wire ropes. Should the terminal be pressed by a rigger instead? See our pressed wire rope terminals.

Fork terminal press-free DIY in A4 stainless steel, also called press-free fork, screw terminal with fork, self-installation terminal or swageless jaw/fork terminal, is intended for use in corrosive and marine environments. The terminal is screwed onto the wire rope end without pressing tools and has a fork with a fork bolt at the other end. The product is used where a 1×19 wire rope is to be attached around an eye, a shackle or a mounting eye. It is suitable for installations where a long service life and consistent performance are crucial.

APPLICATION

The product is used in marine rigging (shrouds and stays), wire rope railings and stay lines where the wire rope is of type 1×19 and where the terminal can be installed on site without pressing tools. It is intended for applications where the wire rope is to be terminated with a fork and where the material choice provides the necessary protection against corrosion and mechanical stress. Available for 1×19 wire rope in 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Which wire rope is the terminal suitable for?

Only wire rope with the 1×19 construction, a rigid wire rope with 19 strands primarily used for shrouds, stays and wire rope railings. The terminal locks the outer strands of the wire rope around a cone inside the sleeve, and the cone is adapted to 1×19. For softer wire rope such as 7×7 or 7×19, you should choose a pressed terminal or another solution. Choose the size according to the nominal diameter of the wire rope.

How is a press-free terminal installed?

The principle is the same as for other press-free cone terminals: the sleeve is placed on the wire rope, the outer strands of the wire rope are loosened a bit from the end, the cone is placed on the core strands and the outer strands are laid back evenly around the cone. Then the parts of the terminal are screwed together and tightened with wrenches. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the exact stripping length and tightening, and check that no strands are out of place before loading the wire rope.

What is the difference between a pressed and a press-free (DIY) terminal?

A pressed terminal has a smooth sleeve that is clamped onto the wire rope with pressing tools (hand press, hydraulic press or rolling machine). It becomes slim and permanent but requires tools and normally a rigger. A press-free DIY terminal is mechanically locked with a cone and thread and installed with standard wrenches, for example on board or on site. It is coarser than a pressed terminal. See all wire rope terminals.

Can you install the terminal for me?

No, we only sell the components and do not perform any installation work. The press-free terminal is intended to be installed by yourself with hand tools.

Can the terminal be used for lifting?

No. WASI does not specify a breaking load for the terminal and it is not intended as a lifting device. Size the wire rope and fitting according to the current application and applicable regulations.

What is the difference between A2 and A4?

A4 (AISI 316) contains molybdenum and is acid-resistant, which provides better resistance to salt and chlorides than A2 (AISI 304). A4 is recommended for boats and coastal environments.

Is the fork terminal also available pressed?

Yes, in two versions: Fork terminal pressed | welded | A4 | M8316 and Fork terminal pressed | turned | A4 | M8316MT. They require pressing tools. If you need an eye instead of a fork, see Eye terminal press-free DIY | for wire rope 1x19 | A4 | M8322.

Which size should I choose?

Choose the variant according to the nominal diameter of the wire rope. Also check the fork opening (C) and the bolt diameter (D) against the eye or mounting eye that the fork will sit on, see the dimension drawing.
