Bolt with a hexagonal head. This hex bolt FZB DIN 933 is manufactured from high-quality steel and has been electro-galvanized (FZB) to provide basic corrosion protection. The zinc coating offers good wear resistance and protection against mechanical impact. Zinc is a base metal and acts as a sacrificial anode to protect the steel. Through electro-galvanization (electrolytic coating), the bolt achieves a smooth, dimensionally accurate surface suitable for dry indoor environments.

AREA OF USE

Our hex bolt with FZB (electro-galvanized) surface finish is the perfect solution for a variety of construction and assembly applications. The galvanized surface finish offers effective corrosion protection, making them suitable for use in dry indoor environments. The hex bolts with FZB treatment are versatile and can be used in a wide range of contexts. They are particularly useful for:

  • Building and construction projects
  • Automotive repairs and maintenance
  • Assembly of machinery and equipment
  • Miscellaneous DIY projects and crafts

With a hex bolt with FZB surface finish, you get a reliable and durable fastening solution.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

What characterizes a fully threaded hex bolt according to DIN 933 / ISO 4017?

A fully threaded hex bolt (M6S) is one of the industry's most versatile fastening components:

  • Fully threaded shank (DIN 933): The thread runs all the way up to the bolt head. This makes it ideal for mounting in threaded holes, adjustable joints, or when thin plates and brackets need to be clamped together.

  • Standardized hex head: Enables high tightening torques using standard wrenches, sockets, or torque wrenches.

  • Strength class 8.8: Manufactured from hardened and tempered steel. This provides a very strong and reliable fastening for mechanical structures.

What does FZB (electro-galvanizing) mean and how does it differ from hot-dip galvanizing (HDG)?

It is important to distinguish between galvanizing methods to ensure the bolt lasts over time:

  • FZB (Electro-galvanized steel): The bolt is coated with a thin zinc layer via electrolysis. This provides a very smooth and dimensionally accurate surface so that the thread runs easily. Used in dry indoor environments (Corrosivity class C1/C2).

  • Difference from Hot-dip Galvanizing (HDG): Hot-dip galvanizing means steel is dipped into molten, liquid zinc. This provides a significantly thicker zinc layer suitable for outdoor use. FZB should not be used unprotected outdoors or in marine environments.

  • Cathodic sacrificial protection: If the zinc surface gets a small scratch, the zinc sacrifices itself chemically to protect the underlying steel from surface rust in normal indoor air.

How do you correctly mount a fully threaded FZB hex bolt?

  1. Use the right washer and nut: Combine with an electro-galvanized plain washer (DIN 125B 200HV) and a hex nut with at least strength class 8 (ISO 4032) to match the bolt's strength.

  2. Tighten with the correct torque: Do not overtighten the bolt. Use the recommended tightening torque for dry or lightly oiled M-threads in class 8.8 to achieve the correct clamping force in the joint.

  3. Choose A4 for outdoor use: If your structure is to be placed outdoors, in damp environments, or near docks/marine environments, you should choose acid-proof stainless steel (A4) instead of FZB.
