Lockable ball valve A4 AISI 316 BSPP in stainless steel A4 is intended for use in piping systems where safe shut-off of liquids or gases is required. The product (item no. M8350) is used where both high corrosion resistance and the option to lock in the open or closed position are necessary. The two-piece design with internal BSPP thread according to ISO 228-1 allows for easy installation. The AISI 316 finish provides excellent resistance to saltwater, chemicals, and varying temperature conditions.

AREA OF APPLICATION

The product is used in marine environments, the process industry, water treatment, and food production. It is intended for applications where manual shut-off of flows is required in combination with protection against accidental or unauthorized operation, for example during maintenance work according to LOTO principles or in systems with high safety requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How does the locking function on the ball valve work and why is it important?

The locking function consists of a locking device on the handle that makes it possible to secure the valve in the fully open or fully closed position with a padlock. This prevents accidental operation, unauthorized interference, or incorrect opening/closing during maintenance work, which is a critical safety requirement in the process industry and marine installations.

What does it mean that the valve has an internal BSPP thread according to ISO 228-1?

BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) according to ISO 228-1 is a straight, parallel pipe thread. Unlike tapered threads, sealing in a BSPP joint usually occurs against a flat sealing surface using a suitable gasket/O-ring, or with thread tape/thread sealant on the thread flanks. It facilitates assembly and disassembly in piping systems.

Why is a 2-piece construction in acid-proof A4 / AISI 316 best suited for demanding environments?

A 2-piece construction provides a robust structure with fewer joints compared to 3-piece valves, which reduces the risk of external leakage. Manufacturing in acid-proof A4 steel (AISI 316 / 1.4401), in combination with PTFE seals, provides high resistance to corrosive chemicals, saltwater, and temperature fluctuations, which ensures a long service life without the ball seizing.
