Do you need a threaded rod that can handle extreme environments involving moisture, salt, and chemicals? The A4 DIN 976 threaded rod in A4 / AISI 316 acid-proof stainless steel is developed for maximum corrosion resistance and long service life. It maintains its strength and shape even when exposed to seawater and aggressive substances, making it ideal for use in harsh industrial and marine environments.

AREA OF USE

Perfect for marine structures, piers, chemical plants, the food industry, and outdoor installations where the highest resistance to corrosion is required. The threaded rod is used together with stainless steel nuts and washers for strong, stable, and vibration-resistant fastenings. Easy to cut to the right length and install with standard tools.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

What does it mean that the threaded rod follows the DIN 976 standard?

DIN 976 (which has replaced the older DIN 975) is the German standard for threaded rods and fully threaded studs with metric threads:

  • Precision and compatibility: Guarantee of exact thread pitch and tolerance along the entire length of the rod (usually 1-meter or 2-meter lengths), which ensures that standard nuts (DIN 934) and coupling nuts run smoothly without binding.

  • Mechanical reliability: Ensures uniform load-bearing capacity and strength across the entire thread profile when cutting or joining heavy structures.

Why is acid-proof stainless steel A4 (AISI 316) required over A2 in harsh environments?

The difference lies in the alloy, where A4 steel (1.4401 / AISI 316) has approximately 2–3% molybdenum added. This provides a decisive step up in corrosion protection:

  • Salt and seawater: Prevents the onset of pitting and crevice corrosion below the waterline, in splash zones, or in coastal outdoor structures.

  • Chemical impact: Resists contact with sulfuric acid, chlorides, industrial cleaning agents, and acidic environments in chemical plants and treatment facilities.

  • Extreme weather conditions: Permanent resistance to moisture and condensation without risk of surface rust or weakened structural load-bearing capacity.

What is the best way to cut and finish an A4 threaded rod?

Since acid-proof A4 steel is tough and work-hardened (it hardens quickly due to friction), the following technique is recommended when cutting:

  1. Cutting: Use an angle grinder with a thin cutting disc intended for stainless steel (Inox) or a hacksaw with a fine-toothed bi-metal blade. Place a nut on the rod before you cut.

  2. Deburring: Bevel the cut threaded end with a file or grinding disc so that the first thread becomes clean and sharp.

  3. The nut trick: Unscrew the nut you placed on before cutting – as the nut is threaded off, it automatically straightens the last threads and removes any burrs.
