Do you need a blind rivet nut that provides a strong and permanent thread without access to the back? The WS 9316 stainless steel A2 (AISI 304) blind rivet nut is an efficient and durable solution for fastening in thin-walled materials. The countersunk head provides a flush and discreet installation against the surface – perfect when you want a smooth result without protruding edges.

The blind rivet nut is easily installed with a standard tool and creates a stable, vibration-resistant thread even where conventional bolted joints are not possible. The stainless A2 material provides very good corrosion resistance, making the nut ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

FIELD OF APPLICATION

Perfect for thin-walled profiles, sheet metal, chassis, furniture structures, and industrial components. Commonly used in the automotive industry, construction sector, furniture production, and general mechanical engineering. It provides a strong and permanent thread without the need to reach the back of the workpiece. Easy to install, provides a neat, flush finish, and requires minimal maintenance even under long-term load.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How does a blind rivet nut work and what is the advantage of the WS 9316 standard?

A blind rivet nut (also called a threaded insert or rivet nut) combines the function of a pop rivet with an internal machine thread:

  • Single-sided installation (blind): It is installed entirely from the outside of the chassis or profile. Therefore, you do not need access to the back to create a strong, load-bearing thread in thin materials.

  • Countersunk head (WS 9316): Unlike a flat head, the rivet head is completely countersunk into the material (after chamfering the hole). This provides a completely smooth surface ($180^\circ$ flush) where connecting components can be mounted flat against the substrate without gaps.

  • Perfect for thin materials: Creates strong M-threads in thin sheet metal, pipes, hollow profiles, or composite materials where thread tapping is not possible due to thin material thickness.

Why is stainless steel A2 (AISI 304) the optimal material choice for blind rivet nuts?

The riveting process places high demands on both the material's deformability and future corrosion protection:

  • High thread strength & torque: A2 steel (1.4301 / AISI 304) provides significantly higher thread strength and withstands higher tightening torques compared to aluminum or brass rivet nuts.

  • Long-term corrosion protection: Withstands weather, wind, moisture, and industrial environments without rusting or staining the surrounding sheet metal.

  • No damaged surface coating: Since the rivet nut is stainless all the way through, there is no zinc plating that can be scraped off during the rivet compression.

What should be kept in mind regarding hole preparation and tools during installation?

  1. Correct countersinking: Drill the hole according to the specified hole diameter for each thread size and chamfer the hole edge to the correct angle ($90^\circ$) so that the rivet head is flush with the surface.

  2. Grip range: Check that the total material thickness of the substrate is within the rivet nut's specified grip range. Material that is too thin or too thick will prevent the bulb from forming correctly on the back.

  3. Use a suitable rivet nut tool: When installing stainless A2 rivet nuts, a manual, pneumatic, or battery-powered rivet nut tool that can handle the higher pulling force required by stainless steel compared to aluminum is necessary.
