Have you ever stood there cursing because you need a threaded fastener in a pipe, profile, or sheet metal—but cannot reach the back side to hold it with a nut?
We have all been there. Whether you are rebuilding your boat, working on your car, or dealing with industrial structures, situations arise where space is limited. This is where the blind rivet nut becomes your absolute best friend in the toolbox.

What actually is a blind rivet nut?
A blind rivet nut (often called a rivnut) functions as a combination of a pop rivet and a nut. It is a tubular fastener with an internal thread that can be installed from just one side of the workpiece.
When you tighten the nut with a rivet tool, it "collapses" on the back side of the material, creating a firm, threaded connection that is rock solid.
Why should you choose blind rivet nuts?
There are many advantages to using blind rivet nuts instead of weld nuts or traditional screw fasteners:
- Single-sided installation: You do not need access to the back side. Perfect for closed profiles or finished structures.
- No heat impact: Unlike welding, you do not damage the material's structure or surface treatment (such as paint or galvanization).
- Strength and durability: They provide a very strong thread even in thin materials where standard threads would not hold.
- Versatility: Can be installed in a variety of materials, from metal and plastic to composites.
Stainless is key – especially in our environment
Since we at Rostfri.nu specialize in durable fasteners, we want to advocate for stainless steel blind rivet nuts. If you are building outdoors or in marine environments, stainless steel (especially acid-proof A4 grade) is a requirement to avoid corrosion and ugly rust stains that can ruin the entire structure over time.
A cheap rivet nut in "regular" steel will start to rust as soon as it is exposed to moisture, making it almost impossible to unscrew the bolt in the future. By choosing stainless from the start, you are investing in a maintenance-free future.
Quick guide: How to install
You don't need advanced expertise to succeed, just the right tools:
- Drill: Make a hole with the correct diameter for the nut.
- Screw on: Fasten the rivet nut onto the mandrel of your rivet tool.
- Insert: Place the nut into the hole.
- Rivet: Activate the tool so the nut deforms and "pinches" tight on the back side.
- Done: Unscrew the tool. You now have a finished, threaded fastener ready to accept your bolt!
